The Courtesans of Karim Street: Gender, Genre and Representation
Book Reading and Discussion with Ms. Debotri Dhar, Author
12th August, 2015 (Wednesday)
Committee Room, Central  Library
3 pm
"A spiteful anonymous letter. The promise of a red gold tree. And Megan Adams sets off on a ten thousand mile journey. From the scenic suburbs of Princeton and a high crime neighborhood of Newark in USA, onward to India, into the posh parts of New Delhi and the narrow bazaars of the old city, Megan’s travel plucks her from the politics of American academia to bring her face to face with the lurking shadows of an untold past.
On an entirely different journey is Naina, a young Indian woman who must navigate the stony, impenetrable divide between the old and new sides of Delhi every day. Inheritor of an ancient tradition, she can still hear – above the wail of bangle-sellers and kabadiwallahs, the smoky, guttural rasps of the newer factories, and the old city’s metallic din of lathes – the music of the sarangi and the tinkling whisper of anklets.
As their stories and cultures collide, a saga unfolds, of love, loss and liberation, of timeless friendships, and of impossible choices."

The Centre for English Studies, in collaboration with the JNU Forum for Mutual Learning, welcomes you to a book reading and discussion with Debotri Dhar, author of 'The Courtesans of Karim Street'. After her reading, Ms. Dhar will be speaking on issues of gender, genre and representation and will also be answering questions.

We look forward to your participation.

Dear Convenor,

You have mentioned that venue of the  discussion is the Committee room, Central Library. It is not clear which Central Library you mean. If you please write Central Library, JNU, that will be nice.

Thank you,

Regards,

Debabrata

Hi Reena,

I know that. But there are new comers who may confuse as other institutions may have central  library. So, please mention Central Library, JNU. Then there will be no confusion.

Regards,

Debabrata
