Hi..
When ever an NRI kid says "I hate India" .. I think the blame goes to the parent as they didnt make enough effort to Glamorize India to their kids..
heres a good tip..to Glamorize India.. to yr kids..afterall ..Hamara Bharat Mahan.
Every time summer is around the corner .. & if our budget is right we aim to go to India in the holidays ..which mainly fall in the mths of july n august ..which happen to be Moonsoons in India...so for 2 mths in India .. with these nri kids ..
so.. this is how we prepare for it..
1. buy great transperent plastic shoes & windcheaters for us n family from here itself.
2. once i know that .. my destination is for eg : bandra ,Bombay..so here (outside India)itself i start doing a through survey of what classes etc can i enrol myself n my kids .. in & around Bandra... I ask my ppl inBombay to cut of clips of the supplement of the local Newspapers that carry info of all classes around that area.. ie Times of India ..has The supplement Bombay times in which there is an half page article daily of all the classes ... we ask any neighbour with kids(local) of any classes etc around that area..
Use d moonsoons to d fullest---enjoy it .. wear simple plastic shoes, wear windsheeters, use a waterproof purse/bag,.. the minute u make a fuss of how bad/dirty or any silly wrong comment to yrhep nri kids .. it just goes against Hamara Bharat Mahan..thot...so..
Start a (waterproof) dairy from here itself take it to india....with lists of1. u want from India, 2.what advice u get from yr friends here, tips ,contact numbers..
& also a tip i got was to purchase a book called TIME OUT FOR KIDS which comes out during the local indian summer holidays costs around 100rs (2 euros).. that is also useful in knowing about classes..
3. we try to put ourselves into various classes ( classes specialy that the kids n me will enjoy like bollywood dancing, vedic math, computer, hindi language, yoga, personality development, sport, art, musicial instrument, spirtual class, talks, camps,)after negotiating that for a mth or two it will be a special intensive class for us..its best to tell the locals ..we are not residing in Bombay but else where.in India(fibbing). Classes we do in the mornings till afternoons then we watch every movie n play in town ..socialize with different ppl..check out new eatiers/restuarants ..go for a rain trek for sure ..
do a rain dance or two..get massages & go to the beauty palour as much as possible..walk & use the local bus/train ..(natural thinning down as u re eating so much on the other side)
shop at linking rd,fashion street, bargain like crazy..
do sightseeing ..go on a bus called Bombay Darshan.. musuems etc..gateway .. take a ferry to the other side ..elephanta caves ..have a brunch there.. check out all d temples etc.. they are really beautiful..
& tthen if u can get to go for a trip to see the taj mahal or any other great sights of India..u must ..take that trip with or without company..(if it is an all inclusive trip its better)
this way ... ure marketing India to yr kids . ure galmourizing India Mere India to them...as u keep them n yrself busy ..so u feel total paisa vasul...of the trip..U n yr kids come back learned so much..!
Jai Bharat!!!
