Here is my next project. Hopefully it will go over better than my last one---O.J. Is Innocent book/Netflix series on the trial.
In 1963, I was on the Vienna Woods boys 11-12 medley relay team that set an NVSL (Northern Va Swim League) record for the 100 yards medley relay. That record STILL stands.
On July 11, 2015, at the end of the Dunn Loring at Vienna Woods swim meet, the original members of the 1963 relay are going to race the current Vienna Woods 11-12 boys medley relay.
We call ourselfs The Four Amigos ---- Roger Russell (backstroke), Roger Williams (breaststroke), me--Jimmy Dickson (butterfly) and Steve Mason (freestyle). It is an unusual relay ---our breaststroker is by far our fastest guy.
The meet starts at 9 am. Our swim at the end will be 11 to 11:30 am if anyone is interested in coming.
You might remember back in Sept of 2014, the Four Amigos swam at Oak Marr for time to see how we compared to our 1963 record time and if we even wanted to challenge the current 11-12's. The Washington Post did a front page Metro section article.
The Post will be there and a couple of other media types. I have a call into ESPN
I am predicting VICTORY. We are taller and stronger. Plus, 65 years of life has made us very determined. We are Warriors.
If you come to see this, please come up to me and say "Hello." I won't have my glasses on ---trying to be young, you know. "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you, don't you...."
It is going to be a swim team reunion. After the meet we eat in the picnic area and Roger Russell and his guitar will be doing some of the old songs---greatest music ever. Party later that nite at Neighbors restaurant in Vienna
I grew up at 204 Harmony Dr, about 100 yards from Vienna Woods pool. Talk about nostalgia---I get "too misty to travel, good buddies" (anyone able to name where that quote comes from and who said it?)
Well, enough already, Dickson, go get a life...
