I am having a periodic issue where some of the threads within the Ultimate Thread Group are failing to exit causing the scenario to never finish. This issue is happening on my linux machine which is a RHEL 6.2 box running the 1.6.0_34 JVM, JMeter 2.8 and JMeterPlugins 0.5.5 (running the scenario in no-gui mode). I have attached a copy of my JMeter log as well as a jstack dump... You can see from the jmeter log that the scenario never actually finishes and via the jstack you can see a couple of threads still lingering around...

The scenario works fine on my windows host (which is also JMeter 2.8 and JMeterPlugins 0.5.5 but is running the 1.6.0_37 JVM. (And is windows...)

This issue does not occur on the RHEL box when using the standard thread group.

This is a very simple scenario created just to experiment with the Ultimate Thread Group (as the functionality is pretty darn useful), 15 threads, 15 second ramp, 30 second duration, shutting down simultaneously.

I'm going to experiment with the 1.6.0_37 JVM on the linux box and see if that helps but I'm not expecting improvement.

thanks in advance for any insight!
-Mike

*NOTE IT APPEARS GOOGLE GROUPS ATTACHMENTS ARE NOT WORKING*

I'll try and put the attachments somewhere else, it appears google groups is not allowing attachments.

Seeing those dumps would be really interesting

I am also seeing this issue. Were you able to find anything out? I will look into how to collect some jstack dumps of my hung JVMs.

In my case I am using Jenkins -> Ant -> Java -> JMeter in Non-GUI Mode. Everything is on a Windows box. The jmeter test never passes "waiting for shutdown".

Out of curiosity, are you using any synchronizing timers or delay timers? I have wondered if the presence of these in my test might be the source of some issues, but that's pure speculation on my part.

Ultimate thread group do not use any timers. It just creates JMeterThread objects and passes them to JMeter engine. Then it finished its work. So it is very interesting to see stack dumps for hung tests...
