jmatter problem resolution and community life

I started recently to implement a 1-week evaluation project in
jmatter, and like this framework's functionality very much. However, I
wonder to what extent support from community and author is available.
I keep running into problems, that I have to resolve by restoring to
the last healthy state, and then apply changes in small steps. That
would not be viable for larger projects.

Problems are like some NullPointerExceptions after
AbstractComplexEObject.setState, or hang of 'ant schema-export' after
the last message.

I would like to use jmatter without having to dig too deep into the
framework's internals, or being expert in Swing.

Can someone advise me
- if there is life in the community;
- if commercial support is available;
- how the future of jmatter is seen;
- and to which alternatives someone switched.
