to Jeanne Mackey's Upcoming Events--

Greetings,

Our band Harmony Bones is playing at Cafe' 704 on Saturday, March 10, 8 pm. Harmony Bones is a band of Ann Arbor folk music scene veterans. We are Laz Slomovits (of "Gemini") Tom Voiles, Linda Teaman & John Lloyd (of "Nutshell"), Jeanne Mackey, and Eric Fithian. Our sound features rich vocal harmonies on traditional, contemporary and original songs, with an array of instruments — guitar, mandolin, flute, pennywhistle, fiddle, accordion, banjo, banjo ukulele, bass, drums — even sitar! The name, " Harmony Bones," comes from an acupuncture point that harmonizes imbalances and promotes clarity. Here's the Facebook event.

I just registered for the White Privilege Conference, which is in Grand Rapids this year. The theme is Understanding, Respecting, and Connecting.
Location rotates, so this is the first time it's been in Michigan. I'll admit the title scared me a little ("will I spend the whole conference drowning in guilt!?), but some of my friends who attend annually assured me that it's about all kinds of privilege, focused on mutual learning and growth. To which I replied, "count me in!" I'm glad to be taking part in U-M's Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion initiative as part of my day job.

Quote for the day:

Let your heart break daily

In conversation.

Over song lyrics.

During the pause right before the sunrise.

While you’re sipping coffee & looking

Into the eyes of someone

Talking about something they love.

For when we break a little, we come alive.

It’s in this space of feeling

We get to expand.

And it’s here in our vulnerability and openness

We step into our greatest selves.
