Greetings,

Happy International Women's Day! The rabbit in my backyard assures me that spring is coming.  Hope you're staying cozy and healthy.  Here's what's up in my world:

Harmony Bones returns to Cafe' 704 for our annual show on Saturday, March 14, 8 p.m.

Harmony Bones is a quintet of Ann Arbor folk music veterans who offer traditional, contemporary and original folk songs. Band members Tom Voiles, Linda Teaman, Jeanne Mackey, Laz Slomovits and Eric Fithian offer rich vocal harmonies and an array of instruments -- guitar, mandolin, bass, flute, pennywhistle, fiddle, banjo, percussion, sitar -- that's Harmony Bones!  Check out our rendition of All Along the Watchtower on Youtube--complete with sitar!

Inspired by an acupuncture point that harmonizes imbalances and promotes clarity, the band's name reflects the quintet's love of harmonies you can feel in your bones! Suggested donation is $8 each or 2/$15. At Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth, 704 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor.  http://cafe704.orgHere's the flier and here's the Facebook event page.

Veteran folksinger/activist Charlie King is coming to town on Saturday, April 18, 8 pm, Church of the Good Shepherd, Church of the Good Shepherd, 2145 Independence Boulevard, Ann Arbor.

Charlie King is a musical storyteller and political satirist who sings and writes passionately about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people, in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Malvina Reynolds, and Pete Seeger (see charlieking.org). Pete Seeger called Charlie “one of the finest singers and songwriters of our time.” Opening act: Jeanne Mackey with bassist Eric Fithian.

Concert proceeds benefit Ann Arbor’s Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice Facebook event page. Purchase tickets via Eventbrite. General admission is $15.  Sponsor: $35. Benefactor: $50 (includes CD).

My dear long-time friend Penny is making another Ann Arbor stop on her book tour.  Here's the scoop:

Wednesday, March 18, 7 pm. Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tearoom, 114 S. Main St., Ann Arbor.  Interactive Book Reading and Conversation with Penny Rosenwasser, author of Hope into Practice: Jewish Women Choosing Justice Despite Our Fears, which just received the Association for Women in Psychology 2014 Jewish Caucus Award for Scholarship. Penny's interactive story-filled presentation links personal healing with working for social change -- her book brings to life an irresistible blend of healing stories, fascinating history, and a fair-minded perspective on Israel-Palestine. It's an activist's call to repair the world. PennyRosenwasser.com.

Spring blessings,

Jeanne Mackey
