Greetings,
I'm glad to join my friend and musical collaborator Laz Slomovits in honoring the memory of his wife Helen through music. We'll sing some of Helen's original songs and others that reflect her spirit and values. Hope to see you there!
6th Annual Benefit Concert Honoring Helen Slomovits
Saturday, May 12, 8:00pm. Cafe 704. Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth, 704 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor. 734-327-0270. InterfaithSpirit.org
Laz Slomovits played a number of concerts at Cafe 704 over the years, always with his wife Helen, until she passed away in 2012. To honor her memory, and to celebrate her life, Laz is dedicating this yearly concert to her. Proceeds from the evening will benefit two organizations: one that supports nature preservation, and the other, an emergency shelter for homeless children and their families. Both of these causes were very close to Helen’s heart.
Laz will be joined by a band of special guests, all of whom recorded or performed with Helen: his bother, San on vocals and guitar, his niece Emily on vocals and violin, Jeanne Mackey on vocals and guitar, Laurel Federbush on harp, Ken Ishii on cello, Alaura Massaro on piano, Lori Fithian and Jean Chorazyczewski on vocals and percussion, and Eric Fithian on bass. Laz and his guests will sing some of Helen’s songs, as well as original and traditional music in both folk and classical styles.

In other news...I had the pleasure of attending the White Privilege Conference, an annual gathering that met in Grand Rapids this year. Wasn't sure what to expect, but found it inspiring and educational. Great speakers and workshops! I collected some social media about conference, which you may peruse here:

Quote for the day:
Every minute of every hour of every day you are making the world, just as you are making yourself, and you might as well do it with generosity and kindness and style. --Rebecca Solnit
