Spring greetings,

Hope to see you next Saturday, 4/18 at what promises to be a spirit-raiser as well as a fundraiser for the Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice.  My friend Charlie King is coming to town. I first met Charlie back in 1979 and was enthralled by his songwriting--especially "Our Life is More Than Our Work" (and our work is more than our job). He has an amazing gift for conveying the human side of social justice issues through his music.  I once had the privilege of playing with Charlie as an opening act for Pete Seeger--quite an honor!  Pete called Charlie  “one of the finest singers and songwriters of our time.” I agree.

Here's scoop:

Veteran folksinger/activist Charlie King returns to Ann Arbor on Saturday, April 18, 8 pm, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2145 Independence Blvd., Ann Arbor. Proceeds benefit the Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice.  Singer/guitarist Jeanne Mackey and bassist Eric Fithian will open. Tickets are $15 general admission; $35 for sponsors; $50 for benefactors (includes CD). To purchase tickets, visit charlieking-a2.eventbrite.com or contact the organizers at charlie...@gmail.com or 734-476-3399

Charlie King is a musical storyteller and political satirist who has performed in Ann Arbor for over 30 years.  He sings and writes passionately about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Charlie’s songs have been sung by Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Ronnie Gilbert, John McCutcheon, and Arlo Guthrie.

Charlie recently celebrated his 50th year as a performer and 40th year as a songwriter with the release of a retrospective album, SO FAR, SO GOOD - 40 Songs For 40 Years.

Concert proceeds benefit Ann Arbor’s Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice.  Founded in 1965, ICPJ inspires, educates, and mobilizes people to “act from their shared ethical and spiritual values in pursuit of peace with social and environmental justice.”

Here's the Facebook event page.

And by the way: don't forget the Festifools parade this Sunday, 4-5 pm on Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor!  I'll be there making giant bubbles with my sweetie at this iconic Ann Arbor event.

Peace and petunias,

Jeanne
