Shabbat dinner theme

Chag sameach everyone!

I thought it would be cool to theme the shabbat dinner to make it more special. We can get an interesting cuisine and i can make some specialty cocktails and we can get decorations.

Thoughts? Ideas for themes? Some i thought could be cute:

Mexican
Cuban
Asian

Hey is someone looking into the meal pricing? If we pick a theme I can look into getting kosher mixes to make some fun cocktails and I don;t mind taking care of some decorative details. I think this will be our biggest event of the year and we should try and use our budget up so we have reason to ask for more next year.

also I think the facebook event should be cleaned up it is a bit confusing as to the freeness and weather or not rsvping on facebook counts.

Is it just fordham students free or all law students?

Yes, Aviva will be looking into pricing at Carlos & Gabby’s tomorrow, so we will compare to Seasons and let you know for sure if the theme is happening. As for pricing, I think the plan was to make the dinner free for Fordham students only – to make it easier for people, we’re going to lower the price for all guests to $5. I will fix that on the Facebook event now and we will clarify in any emails we send out this week.

I don't think people will mind so much paying the $5 of $10 even I just think that things need to be more clear so everyone knows what they are supposed to do. Also we will have to let people know when they should rsvp by.

Do you think we should have everyone rsvp by e-mail even fordham students? I think that would be good bc people are a bit haphazard about clicking attending on facebook.

Just edited the FB page – the event is free for Fordham students, who can RSVP via Facebook; $5 for guests, who can RSVP via email. I’m also going to add that people should RSVP by Wednesday evening (but we always order enough food for latecomers anyway).

Hey everyone- So I think we've decided to go with a more traditional shabbat dinner since we figure that's what most guests are expected. I'll figure out the seasons order with Aviva.

Next- Mickey can you do alcohol again? We have a $300 cash donation from JGrads to cover it (Hannah has it?) and Gila has a few beers and a half bottle of vodka in her locker. Can you do a pretty similar order as last time, including wine??

Ariel- do you know if you will be here on Friday night? And either way would you be able to take care of the non-alcoholic drinks (soda and water) and ice. If you're not going to be here on Friday then don't worry about the ice and you can leave the drinks in the JLSA office on Thursday.

I'll do another inventory of the paper goods supply in the JLSA office but I took a quick look around earlier and it didn't look like there was that much.

Hannah- can you bring your hot plate again?

Lastly- (sorry for the overload!!) but the FB event doesn't have a location listed! Is it on the 4th floor again or is it possible to get that glass room off of the undergrad caf?

Aww ok if thats what ppl want thats fine. I can still make cocktails if people want? I can take care of liquir and have it delivered again and then can the morton williams person take care if beer? Let me know how many people are coming and how much i have to spend (i.e. How much of the booze budget we want to spend on liquir and how much on beer).

If we want to do cocktails i may need some mixers from morton williams.

I don't have the budget breakdown in front of me, but if we factor in the finals study break, yom haatzmaut stuff, and our lecture tomorrow, we're actually tapped out in terms of money for the dinner...

Tomorrow is only 75 and we have 1450 in our account now plus the $350 in PayPal. I think we will be okay if we keep total expenditure on the dinner to $1250 or so.

finals break is only if we have excess funds after yom ha'atzmaut (which should be around $300, and ILJ may contribute).

Lecture tomorrow is cupcakes (should be about $75, plus drinks) and we were hoping the study break could be free cholent. Yom Ha'atzmaut we were thinking falafel, but if that's not possible we can keep it cheaper, more like last year.

I am a bit confused there are a lot of non perishables still not crossed off is someone else taking care of that? Also, f anyone has any beer preferences please e-mail them to me because I know nothing about beer. Here is the list i crossed off what said done and whatever I got. Everyone please make sure that you put anything on the list that is still missing or that you now realize we need. Please strike through anything that has been purchased or should be removed.
