Sunday Teaching 주일 예배 말씀

This past Sunday, the children learned about Micah, the prophet to Judah (Micah 1-7). Micah prophesied during the same time as Isaiah. During this time, many people in Judah became rich. They became greedy for more money and so they failed to do justice. Justice is doing what's right and fair. The people in Judah did the opposite, which is called, injustice. They took fields and houses away from the poor and the weak. They did many other unfair things, too. Micah told them that they were being so bad that it was as if they were killing the poor and the weak and eating them for food (3:1-3). 

지난 주일에는 유다의 선지자였던 미가에 대해 배웠습니다 (미가 1-7장). 미가는 이사야와 같은 시대에 활동했던 예언자입니다. 그 당시 유다에는 많은 사람들이 부유했습니다. 그들은 돈에 점점 더 욕심을 부린 나머지 공의를 행하는데 실패하고 말았습니다. 공의란 올바르고 공평하게 행하는 것인데, 유다 백성들은 그 정반대의 행동, 곧 불의를 일삼았습니다. 그들은 가난하고 힘없는 사람들로부터 집과 전토를 빼앗았습니다. 그 외에도 수없이 부당한 일을 저질렀지요. 미가는 그들에게 경고하기를, 그들의 악한 짓이 얼마나 도에 지나쳤는지 마치 가난하고 힘없는 사람들을 죽여서 그들을 음식으로 먹는 것이나 다름없다고 말합니다 (3:1-3).

 

The people didn't want to hear it (2:6) because they thought they weren't doing anything wrong. In fact, they thought that God was on their side. What could make them think such a thing when they were not doing justice? It was because they were giving the offerings at the temple and they thought that was enough for God. 

백성들은 자신들이 잘못하고 있다고 생각하지 않았기에 미가의 말을 들으려 하지 않았습니다 (2:6). 사실 그들은 하나님께서 자신들의 편이라고 생각했습니다. 공의를 행하지도 않으면서 도대체 어떻게 그런 생각을 할 수 있었을까요? 그들은 자신들이 성전에서 정해진 제사를 드리고 있었기 때문에, 그것이면 하나님께 족하다고 생각했던 것입니다.

 

That's when Micah told them that they were missing the point: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (6:8). Micah told the people of Judah that what God wanted was for them to do what's fair, to love others always, and to be careful to live the way that God wants them to live. In other words, Micah told them that what God wanted from them was the very thing they were failing to do: justice!

그 때 미가가 백성들이 잘못 짚었음을 지적합니다. “사람아 주께서 선한 것이 무엇임을 네게 보이셨나니 여호와께서 네게 구하시는 것은 오직 정의를 행하며 인자를 사랑하며 겸손하게 네 하나님과 함께 행하는 것이 아니냐 (6:8)” 미가는 유다백성들에게 하나님께서 원하시는 것은 공평하게 행하고, 항상 다른 이들을 사랑하며, 하나님이 원하시는 방식을 조심스레 따르며 사는 것이라고 말합니다. 다시 말해서, 미가는 하나님께서 그들에게 원하신 것은 그들이 실패하고 있는 바로 그것  -정의!- 이라고 지적한 것입니다.

 

Micah prophesied that God would punish Judah by destroying Jerusalem (3:12) and by sending them into exile. We should be used to hearing such bad news from the prophets. But with the bad news, the prophets usually had good news to tell, too. Micah told the people that God wouldn't be angry with them forever. God would forgive their sins and bring them back to their homes (4:1-5). God would even help them rebuild Jerusalem and they would live in peace again.

미가는 예루살렘이 폐허가 되고 (3:12) 백성들은 포로로 잡혀가는 것으로 하나님께서 유다를 심판하실 것이라고 예언합니다. 선지자들이 그런 불길한 소식을 전하는 것은 어쩌면 당연한 일이죠. 하지만 불길한 소식과 더불어, 선지자들은 또한 기쁜 소식도 함께 전하곤 합니다. 미가는 하나님께서 백성들에게 영원히 노하시지는 않을 것이라고 말합니다. 하나님께서 그들의 죄를 용서해 주실 것이고, 고향으로 다시 되돌아 오게 하실 것이라고요 (4:1-5). 하나님께서는 심지어 그들이 예루살렘을 재건하도록 도우실 것이고, 그들은 다시 평화롭게 살게 될 것입니다.

 

 Micah's message had two parts. First, the people's sins needed to be punished. Second, their sins would be forgiven. This made Micah wonder, "Who is a God like you?" (7:18). It was amazing to Micah that God wouldn't stay angry forever, but be glad to love the people and even "cast all our sins into the depths of the sea"(7:19). 

미가의 메시지는 두 부분으로 나뉘어 있었습니다. 첫째, 백성들의 죄는 심판 받아야만 했습니다. 둘째, 그러나 그들의 죄는 용서받게 될 것입니다. 이것이 미가를 놀라며 궁금하게 했습니다. “주님, 주님 같으신 하나님이 또 어디에 있겠습니까? (7:18)”  하나님께서 영원히 노를 품지 않으시고, 백성들을 기뻐 사랑하시며, 심지어 “우리의 모든 죄를…저 바다 밑 깊은 곳으로 던지기 (7:19)”까지 하신다는 사실은 미가에게 참으로 경이로운 것이었습니다.

 

Micah's message reminds us of the gospel. The gospel also tells us that God must punish our sins AND he wants to forgive us of our sins. God can't do just one and leave out the other; he must do both. Jesus came to make that possible. Just as the punishment for Judah was that their home would be destroyed, on the cross, Jesus was "plowed as a field" and became "a heap of ruins" (3:12) as he died for our sins. When Jesus was punished for our sins, it was as if God took all our sins and threw them into the bottom of the ocean – never to be seen again. Jesus was raised from the dead to prove to everyone who would believe in him that they have been forgiven. 

미가의 메시지는 우리에게 복음을 상기시켜 줍니다. 복음이 말하는 것 또한 하나님께서 우리의 죄를 반드시 심판하시며 동시에 우리의 죄를 용서하기 원하신다는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 둘 중 하나를 제쳐두고 다른 하나만 취하실 수 없습니다; 반드시 두 부분 모두를 행하셔야 하는 것이죠. 그것을 가능하게 하시려고 예수님께서 오셨습니다. 유다에 대한 심판으로 그들의 고향이 황폐하게 되었던 것 처럼, 십자가에서 우리 죄를 위해 돌아가실 때 예수님도 “밭처럼 갈리고 폐허더미 (3:12)”가 되셨습니다.  예수님께서 우리 죄를 대신해 벌을 받으셨을 때, 그것은 마치 하나님께서 우리의 모든 죄를 들어다가 저 바다 밑 깊은 곳으로 던지신 것과 같습니다 –다시는 보이지 않도록요. 예수님께서는 그 분을 믿는 모든 이들에게 그들이 죄사함 받았음을 증명해 보이시려고 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나셨습니다.

 

Also, just as the people of Judah would be brought back home, one day, Jesus will come back to bring those of us who believe to our heavenly home: "I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also" (John 14:2-4). Who is like our God? Let's trust God and live for him with our whole lives. In Jesus, we are forgiven and promised a heavenly home.

또한, 유다 백성들이 고향으로 다시 돌아오게 된 것처럼, 언젠가 예수님께서도 우리 중에 믿는 이들을 천국고향으로 데려가시기 위해 다시 오실 것입니다: “내가 다시 와서 너희를 내게로 영접하여 나 있는 곳에 너희도 있게 하리라. (요한복음 14:2-4)”  우리 하나님과 같은 분이 어디에 있습니까? 하나님을 신뢰하고 우리의 삶을 다해 그 분을 위해 삽시다. 예수님 안에서 우리는 죄 용서 받았고, 천국을 약속 받았습니다.

Harvest Festival 추수 축제

All three children's departments (Nursery, Pres/K-1, CM) will be holding Harvest Festival at church again this year as a substitute for typical Halloween activities. Children with their families are invited to church to worship God, play fun games, win candy, and take part in the costume contest. We also want this to be an outreach event so please feel free to invite unbelieving families. Free admission for all!

Harvest Festival will take place on Friday, Oct. 31 from 7PM-9PM. Please be sure to have dinner prior to coming. Dinner will not be served, but snacks will be available. 

올해에도 전형적인 할로윈 행사를 대신해 교회에서 어린이 관련 부서 세 곳(Nursery, Pres/K-1, CM)이 모두 함께 모여 추수 축제를 엽니다. 어린이들과 가족들 모두 함께 하나님께 예배드리고, 재미있는 게임과 함께 사탕도 받고 의상대회도 참가하도록 여러분을 교회로 초대합니다. 또한 구제 활동의 일환으로 믿지않는 가정들도 자유롭게 초대해 주시길 바랍니다. 모두 무료 입장입니다!

추수 축제는 10월 31일 금요일 저녁 7시 부터 9시 까지 열립니다. 오시기 전에 저녁을 드시고 오세요. 간식은 제공하지만, 저녁 식사는 제공되지 않습니다.
