God and Guru aren't two separate entities. God has come down to us in the form of Guru. In the auspicious occasion of Guru poornima we, humbly pray to our beloved Hari-Guru to Grace us with His service. Guru sows the seed of Divine knowledge in our heart and lovingly tends to it by providing us service opportunities. That seed of knowledge sprouts a sapling of faith and devotion, which leads us to the lotus-feet of God. It is through the Grace of Guru that a soul gets the darshan, sewa, bhakti and love of God.
