Continuing the series of blog posts about the Irish tour of Janeshwari
Devi, disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj:
Janeshwari Devi's (Didi's) visit to Galway has become much more
popular since a local radio station announced her talks throughout the
day on Friday. Read the previous blog entry about her talk at
Wholistic House of Healing here. On Saturday June 9th, Janeshwari Devi
gave another wonderful spiritual discourse graciously hosted by the
Hindu community living in Galway.
Janeshwari Devi's talk explained soul’s true relation to Bhagwan Shree
Krishn. She described and gave historical examples of the four kinds
of relationship that we can have with Shree Krishn - dasya, sakhya,
vatsalya and madhurya bhao. The sweetest of these is madhurya bhao or
complete selfless love for Shree Krishn, in the same way the Gopis of
Braj loved Shree Krishn.
Everyone joined her in singing the well-known verse:
त्वमेव माता च पिता त्वमेव, त्वमेव बंधू च सखा त्वमेव
त्वमेव विद्या द्रविणं त्वमेव, त्वमेव सर्वं मम देव देव |
You alone are my true Mother; You alone are my true Father.
You alone are my true Relative; You alone are my true Friend.
You alone are my true Knowledge; You alone are my true Wealth.
You alone are my Everything, my supreme God.
Janeshwari Devi said that although this verse is sung in almost every
Hindu temple in the world, and we sing these words, yet, we remain
attached to our family, we treasure our own wealth and possessions and
we take pride in the knowledge we have attained through our
educational accomplishments. We rely on these things, rather than
relying on God’s grace.
Many real life examples of how we are casually approaching God were
given. When we are needy, or sick, we call out to God to help us, but
when things are going smoothly in life, we forget about God. When it
comes to our everyday activities, we are diligent in doing what is
needed, but when it comes to God, we say "whatever will be, will be".
Spiritual attainment is not the result of fate... it arises out of a
conscious, whole-hearted effort to turn towards God.
Didiji explained that as one evolves on the path of bhakti, they feel
more fallen and humble in front of God. Shree Krishn is our refuge. He
becomes patit pavan for us, purifying the fallen souls.
The endless search for happiness that we have been engaged in up until
now is like the search of a gazelle who, dying of thirst, is chasing
the mirage of water that appears in the desert, but never reaches it.
When she reaches that spot, the water always appears to be further
ahead and she dies of thirst. In the same way, although our
accomplishments and wealth may increase, but the satisfaction we are
seeking is never reached. The happiness that we have been mistakenly
looking for through our daily activities can only be found in God. We
are ansh (part) of Bhagwan (God), and He is anshi (complete).
The community was visibly appreciative of the depth and sincerity of
Janeshwari Devi's words, explanations and kirtans (chantings) and
invited her to return on her next visit to Ireland.
Everyone participated in the arti of Radha Krishn and enjoyed a
sumptuous prasad dinner. During dinner, Didiji sat with the youth and
spoke to them about what they learned from her lecture and their
experiences of being Hindu and living in Ireland.
All in all, it was a spiritual uplifting evening for everyone. Next
stop, Satnam Center, Dominic Street, June 12, 19:30 - 21:00 (See:
