Subject: Our Taman Rimba Kiara is at Risk!

Dear Neighbours,

The FT Minister on Feb 17 announced in Star newspaper, on behalf of DBKL, that a "Development Order" has been issued for a development company to bulldoze our 12 acre Taman Rimba Kiara park and build luxury condos and 300+ units of flats for the displaced long-house residents.

8 luxury condo towers (each tower up to 52 storeys) to be built. Company formed by a foundation, Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan(YWP) and public listed property developer Malton.
(Chairman of YWP is the same FT Minister and the KL Mayor is on the Board of YWP).

We DO support strongly the building of this long overdue housing for the displaced ex-rubber estate employees. Government made a promise to these displaced families 30+ years ago. But NOT the luxury condos.

You will recall last year our RA organized 2 resident protests, 5000+petitions, presented our case to the Mayor and DBKL's Directors.  All these now completely ignored.  Arrogance at it's peak!  There are indications of abuse of power/conflict of interest.
A small task force has been formed by the RA (some of your MA Security Committee members are in this group), to rationally/legally challenge this outlandish decision.
Legal consultations on how to initiate a court ordered "Injunction" are taking place and a new round of media coverage is being executed.

This includes the respected publication "Edge Weekly", agreeing to do an investigative report on the public park land acquisition.

The key question that needs answering:- how can land, designated as public use be suddenly made commercial? On what, whose authority or Act? What happened to the plan to build a Bhuddist temple and Church beside the Indian temple?
Protests and fund raising for payment of the legal fees, will be organized.

Attached is the latest media release sent to the press.
We will update you once next steps have been decided.

Yours Faithfully,
MA Security Committee
