May’s fifth Sunday Combined Priesthood & Relief Society Lesson focused on planning for a wholesome summer by including work, worship, and play in our family routines this summer. What are your goals for finding opportunities to implement the principle of work? Are the children doing chores with you? Are you having a family service project this summer? Helping a relative? Finding summer jobs for your teenagers? How will you help your family live by the precepts in the Family Proclamation: Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.
This Week’s Lesson SummaryChapter 11: Follow the Living ProphetTeachings of the Presidents of the Church: Ezra Taft Benson"The most important prophet, so far as we are concerned, is the one who is living in our day and age.”1. The President of the Church is the Lord’s Mouthpiece on the earth.Learn to keep your eye on the prophet. What does this mean to you?
2. The most important prophet for us is the living prophet. What has President Thomas S. Monson taught? See attachment for a list of themes he has taught in General Conference since he was called to be prophet in 2008.
3. The living prophet tells us what we need to know, not necessarily what we want to hear."How we respond to the words of a living prophet when he tells us what we need to know, but would rather not hear, is a test of our faithfulness…."4. We will be blessed as we follow the living prophet.President Wilford Woodruff stated: “I say to Israel, the Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as president of the Church to lead you astray. It is not in the program. It is not in the mind of God.""As members of the Church we have some close quarters to pass through if we are going to get home safely. We will be given a chance to choose between conflicting counsel given by some. That is why we must learn—and the sooner, the better—to keep our eye on the Prophet, the President of the Church."Read the Lesson第11章:跟隨活著的先知
