In 2007 the series started to visit circuits in other European countries as the FIA approved International Superstars Series. Since then every season awards two different drivers' titles, one for the International Series and one for the Italian Championship. Points are gained for the Italian Championship at each Italian and one European race meeting.

The 2012 season saw the growth of the series in terms of media and spectators - attracting 33,000 fans to its race at Vallelunga in Rome on October 7, 2012.[6] Johan Kristoffersson won the championship in his KMS Audi RS5 after a season long battle with Vitantonio Liuzzi and his CAAL Racing Mercedes AMG C63. Kristoffersson's success in Superstars proved a strong element in advancing his career.[7]

The 2013 calendar contains eight races in 6 countries. The series promoters have given the series an umbrella name "The Superstars World of Racing" that reflects its international growth and refers to the entire weekend of events which includes The Superstars International Series, the GT Sprint International Series, local support races and entertainment events.[8]

Like Verstappen, Andrea Kimi Antonelli is 16 years old as he embarks upon his maiden pan-European championship in cars. Unlike Verstappen, who did not become a Red Bull Junior until the middle of his F3 season, the Italian has the patronage of a top Formula 1 team in the form of Mercedes. And also unlike Verstappen, he already has one full season in cars under his belt; one in which he won no fewer than 26 races.

Unfortunately, a collision in qualifying for the Motorsport Games at Paul Ricard last October left him with a fractured wrist. Yet he still competed, and won both races. But for his graduation to FRegional, according to Rosin, basically he lost all the winter preparation.

Ishikawa will be making his third-consecutive stop in the Piedmont Triad for the Wyndham Championship. The Japanese superstar finished tied for 26th last year. He has 12 international victories to his credit; he has yet to win a PGA TOUR event but has two runner-up finishes. He is 68th in the current FedExCup point standings and 81st in the Official World Golf Rankings.

American race cars are prided for their handling, engineering, and speed. But all that horsepower can't turn a lap without craftsmanship from northern Italy, and an attention to detail that has even caught the eye of two popes.

The steering wheel might seem like a small part of a race car, but considering it's where the driver's skill comes into direct contact with the machine, every little detail packs a huge punch on the track.

Armando and Rosanna, and many other artisans who work in the area, make so many race car steering wheels - more than anywhere else in the world - that the picturesque backdrop they call home in is known locally as "steering wheel valley."

Some say he's closely related to Bigfoot and that he's a former Canadian Touring Car Champion. All we know is he's the AutoGuide Stig! A thesis defense away from being your intellectual superior he's a professor of vehicle handling dynamics. The part-time touring car and time attack racer is faster (much faster) than your average auto journalist.

Ineligible to race from the start of the 2022 British F4 season by virtue of being too young, Sharp went on to take two wins and 10 podiums. He finished the year fourth in the standings, before winning both F4 UAE Trophy Races on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix support bill in November, beating 2022 British F4 Champion Alex Dunne in the process. He will remain with Carlin this season for a second campaign in British F4.

32-years-old, from Rome. Of Senegalese origins, Obama began drag in the early 2000s under the name 'Naomo.' However, she established herself in the Italian drag scene as 'Obama' in honor of Barack Obama, who became President of the United States in the same year. Her drag is inspired by beauty icons Grace Jones and Naomi Campbell. In 2018, out of drag, she participated in Big Brother, but sees Drag Race Italia as an opportunity to make another part of herself known.

"It's difficult to compare titles but this one definitely feels great," Rossi told reporters. "It was a tough battle this year. To win the championship with a race win is fantastic. "I've won some hard championships -- like the first with Yamaha in 2004 -- but this one I maybe tried to put more effort in outside of the races to try and win."

Rossi has an insurmountable 312 points in the world title standings with Stoner on 220 and Pedrosa on 209. The next race takes place at Phillip Island in Australia next weekend. (Writing by Alastair Himmer in Tokyo; Editing by Peter

He entered just seven world championship F1 races, winning one (sharing with Fangio in the 1951 French GP) and finished on the podium five more times. He was 53 when he won that race, a record that even Lewis Hamilton will find hard to break.

After recovering from the severe head injuries he sustained in the opening lap crash of the 1978 Italian GP, he raced for his beloved Alfa Romeo before retiring at the end of 1980. He then established a book and memorabilia shop in Monza that became a must-visit for true race fans.

The last Italian to win an F1 race looked like a superstar in midfield equipment but was a midfielder in superstar equipment. Putting one over on Pedro Lamy at Minardi in 1996 earned him a place at Jordan for the following year, where he and Ralf Schumacher were very evenly matched, despite their vastly differing styles.

After nine races of the 1985 championship, and with two wins and five other podium finishes, Michele Alboreto led the world championship. It would be the last time an Italian would take the fight for the title so deep into the season.

His father Antonio was a star of 1920s grands prix, making the Ascaris the first racing dynasty. Both men raced for Enzo Ferrari, but it was a dispute over money that caused Alberto to quit and join Lancia.

The same goes for the man immediately above him in the standings, Hugh Bowman, who gained six points in the rankings himself after winning two of the biggest races in the world at the weekend - the G1 Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup at Sha Tin on Werther on Sunday, and the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick on Saturday on the great Winx.

Diana Taurasi is a women's basketball superstar, winning three WNBA titles and six EuroLeague championships over her 12-year professional career, as well as four Olympic gold medals wearing the stars and stripes.

Rossi, chasing his 10th title in grand prix motorcycle racing, is 42 points adrift of joint championship leaders Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso, with 125 points up for grabs in the five remaining races.

Born in a poor Italian village in 1914, Bartali saved up money to buy his first bicycle when we was 11 years old so he could ride to school in the city of Florence. After years of riding on hilly roads, Bartali became a competitive racer at the age of 17.

It would be fitting for visitors to Jerusalem watching the race to visit another site in the city: the Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem, where the tree that was planted in honor of Gino Bartali still grows, reminding us that no matter how heroic Bartali seemed because of his sporting ability, it was his quiet decency, honor and bravery that truly set him apart and made him a hero in the fullest sense of the term.
