ABOUT MICHAEL SEA & ISLAND FEVER
Nationally recognized singer/songwriter Michael Sea has been writing and performing songs with a tropical/nautical theme for the past 25 years. Michael’s lyrics from his first two albums tell stories both true and fanciful evoking exotic locales and bringing to life colorful characters like “Toucan Bill.” Music masters Island Fever bring the sound all together, contributing a driving rhythm section and tight harmonies. Island Fever features the talents of Bud Minton on bass, Don Parsons on drums, Bryan Weiss on percussion and JJ Jenkins ..boards.
Michael Sea and Island Fever's new CD is Stealing Coconuts. The third studio offering from these San Francisco based tropical troubadours, Stealing Coconuts is a delight of musical stylings that both navigates familiar territory and explores uncharted waters. The album opens with “Kauai Calls,” a wistful paeon to that dreamlike place that we’d all like to be. “Prayers Across
the Sea,” written by Michael’s father is wonderful blend of Hawaiian meets country, while “Caribbean Sunset,” “Gators and Flies” and “Tierra del Fuego” are pure Island Fever delivering that hot tropic fix. A highlight of the disc is Michael’s interpretation of the Hank Snow classic “Rhumba Boogie” which cooks to perfection thanks to some hot pedal steel work by special guest Dave Zirbel. “He is the Reason” is a beautiful lyrical tribute to Michael’s father, while the haunting gypsy-like “Magica” was lovingly written for his daughter. The Spoonful-esque “Spring Fever” is sure to set your foot a tappin’ with its catchy melody. The gentle lullaby “Blueberry Pie” gives us a brief respite on our musical journey before we “Rest in Savannah.” “Perry’s Sandbar and Grill” immortalizes a memorable visit by captain and crew to this Delta landmark. “Shot in the Heart” shows off the rocking side of Michael Sea and Island Fever aided by guitar legend Brad Gillis. The album closes with
“Ruth Ann’s Song,” Michael’s traditional New Year’s serenade to his wife. You’ll find that Stealing Coconuts is filled with themes of family, friends and warmer climates but you’ll mostly find that the music of Michael Sea and Island Fever will steal its way into your heart.
