Perrone Robotics, a JavaONE 2007 keynote presenter managed to run Solaris on a very minimal hardware configuration of a robot to be able to get the reliability of Solaris with the functionality / possibilities offered by Java's Real Time System (RTS). It runs on 100 mb of RAM only!
They made Solaris boot in 13 seconds on the robot.Now there are a couple of readily available minimalistic solaris distributions like
Milax and PulsarOS (poste about it recently) which you and I can use too.
