This event has been changed.OSUM Webinar: Network Virtualization with OpenSolaris CrossbowThis webinar will be conducted in English. This webinar is scheduled for September 29 at 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) which corresponds to: 6:00 PM - Berlin, Germany In this event, we will discuss in more detail the most significant new features of OpenSolaris 2009.06- Project Crossbow for Network Virtualization and Network Resource Management. Project Crossbow represents re-thinking the networking subsystem to respond to the immense popularity of server virtualization and to enable further innovation in the networking stack. The result is a new architecture that offers some intriguing capabilities. Crossbow brings network virtualization capabilities to a general purpose operating system for the first time. By network virtualization, we mean the ability to virtualize an entire network topology- NICs, Switches, Routers, and Firewalls on a single hardware platform. Network Virtualization greatly expands the scope for server consolidation projects and has relevancy for a wide range of tasks from development and prototyping, to creating testing environments and even including full deployments. Another key element of Crossbow is Network Resource Management. Solaris offers resource management capabilities that allow assigning CPU and Memory resources to applications. With Crossbow these resource management capabilities now include network capabilities- the ability to assign a bandwidth to NIC or Virtual NIC, the ability to prioritize traffic, and the ability to assign CPU resources to handle networking traffic. These resource management capabilities allow you to build application environments where the resources required by critical applications can be guaranteed. And in the purely networking case, the ability to enforce bandwidth and priority constraints is a critical element of supporting Quality of Service standards. We want to make exploring the capabilities of Crossbow technology as easy as possible so much of this presentation is about using a demo tool to create complex network topologies that you can then populate with your applications to become familiar with the concepts of Network Virtualization. This webinar will be given by Jeff McMeekin and Kais Belgaied. Jeff McMeekin, Product Management for Solaris Networking. Jeff has been in a variety of technical roles at Sun for the last 23 years, including Consulting Services, Developer Support, Pre-Sales Technical Support, and for the last 4 years working as a Product Manager within the Solaris organization. Kais Belgaied is a Senior Staff Engineer at Sun Microsystems, Inc. working for the Solaris Kernel, Networking and Infiniband group Please use the World Clock Meeting Planner to convert to your local time.
