Which is better for machine learning ?

So a guy asked me whether he should go for java or c++/python .


What other think/prefer ? What's other experience in IT industries ?

I don't do any of this, but I know lisp has been the favored language for this.

Just looking at Kaggle which are open contests for machine learning, I can clearly see popularity of Python, R and Matlab.

 I highly recommend Python as the goto language because apart from being an excellent ML tool, Python is a great general purpose programming language.
