Dear GEORGI STOEV,
World Trade Organization (WTO) ministers are meeting this week in Yaoundé, Cameroon for the WTO 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) – at a moment when the multilateral trading system faces unprecedented strain.
In the lead-up to the conference, ICC published an MC14 Call to Action, calling on ministers to launch a structured, time-bound reform process needed to restore and modernise the WTO's core functions – and to equip the system to address current and future trade challenges, including by renewing the WTO Moratorium on customs duties on electronic transmissions.
To back that call, ICC rallied over 236 chambers of commerce and business organisations from every region in the world behind a Global Business Statement addressed to WTO ministers.
Today, moments before the conference's opening session, ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO formally presented the statement to WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala – delivering a powerful signal of business resolve on the future of the multilateral trading system.
