JHUMA Alumni Networking Event

  I pray this email finds you well. My name is Nuha and I graduated from Hopkins last year.If you haven't heard from your alumni representative already, JHUMA undergrads were interested in doing a social networking event with you all similar to the one in 2014. It was a very meaningful event for the undergrads then, including myself. When the idea was brought up this year, many expressed excitement about meeting past alumni. 
   

 I'm reaching out to you in hopes to see if any of you guys were interested in taking part in this event. Ayesha Shibli, the current JHUMA president suggests that it  could take place during either alumni weekend or spring fair weekend. She also passes along a message to you all: 

"Salaams! My name is Ayesha and I'm a current senior here at Hopkins. I've been a member of JHUMA since my first year, at which time I met a number of alumni over Alumni weekend for a networking event. Having this opportunity as a first year helped me as I continued to make my path in Hopkins, as I saw the many different directions in which JHUMA alumni have gone and flourished. I'd love to recreate this opportunity for the current underclassmen so that they too can witness the camaraderie and inspiration I felt as I met Muslims breaking barriers as they succeed in their respective fields."

assalam alaikum,

I would love to have a JHUMA alumni reunion and mixer with the current JHUMA students. I think the timeline for the coming weeks may be tough, but if we can organize something well in advance for say spring 2018 where we could adequately make arrangements, I think it would be a great idea. Perhaps Alumni weekend or Spring Banquet next year?

That sounds like a great idea! I know this year we've approached you all rather late, but insha'Allah our preliminary plans this year can become the beginning of an annual event as we turn things over to the incoming board. 

Another alumnus suggested creating a contact list of the JHUMA alumni with their graduate schools or jobs in all the different fields. If we could collect information such as name, contact, major, year of graduation, and next steps we can also provide current undergrads with alumni who would be the best fit to network with.

Basically, I think we're receiving a lot of important feedback, and I'd love to continue hearing from you all, whether you can make it or not– and insha'Allah this can become a regular fixture in the following years.

Thanks for taking this initiative. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the weekends on the link. However, I am happy to support this type of initiative in the future, iA.

Thank you for everyone who has filled the google form! 

InshaAllah it looks like the event will take place on April 22nd. Time and location is still awaiting booking confirmation, but we are currently planning for a late afternoon event. Stay tuned for the facebook event page! 

For those of you who are available to come during alumni weekend, the JHUMA exec board is kindly requesting that you send them a 1-3 sentence bio inshaAllah. Please send all info to Maliha, the current ECR. Her email is mch...@jhu.edu (cc'd to this email). 

Also for those who said would prefer Spring Fair Weekend, we hope you can still join us on the 22nd. If not, we understand,  InshaAllah we'll be able to host you in the future!
