It was not Oracion nor Pastor Unknown to many Filipinos, even before Leo Oracion and Erwin "Pastor" Emata of the First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition and Romi Garduce of University of the Philippines Mountaineers Club reached the summit of Mount Everest last week (1-2-3 in that order), one Filipino had long touched the peak of Everest. Unfortunately, there were no fanfares and the feat was not broadcasted as the two rival giant networks (ABS-CBN and GMA 7) have declined to sponsor the expedition of the unknown Filipino summiteer. So, who was the first Filipino to reach the peak of Everest? When Romi Garduce, the third Filipino who reached the summit of Mount Everest, arrived in Manila on Friday afternoon, the alleged first Filipino summitteer finally broke his silence. "Hindi si Leo, kundi ako ang nauna." Proof The unknown mountaineer who claimed that he was the first one to reach the summit of Mount Everest has distributed copies of videotape to the media who were at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport yesterday.
