I don't know what you mean by "officially reported as dead", but there have been commits to the repository as recently as two months ago.

No release since 2020.02.20 - that's pretty dead. Not sure who is doing the commits.

I'm curious about the status of the project. It's unusual for the primary author to drop off without saying anything. Hopefully, he hasn't met with an unfortunate accident or illness.
Craig committed in February and March of 2021.
I looked at jgnash some time ago, but after a while I switched to GnuCash. Now I'm looking at jgnash again, because I would like to be able to use cryptocurrency as currency, believe it or not, and not pretend that it's some sort of shares or securities that I'm holding.
