At this point it seems utterly surreal. I cannot believe after 6
months the day is finally (almost) here!! I remember now the long wait
after the application process - the March notification letter that I
had been accepted - all the way to this day. Amazing!
I am now packed completely. A few things to throw in tomorrow morning,
but essentially done. This is a HUGE weight off my shoulders. I was
very worried beforehand, as you might imagine, with weight limits,
etc., but things have worked out fine. Actually, I am 20 lbs UNDER the
weight limit. Wow. For men, it is difficult to pack lightly when they
tell you to bring two suits/sportcoats. Those add up! Throw in all the
things needed to go along with those sportcoats and you have a lot to
bring! I read a few posts regarding not overpacking (which I may have
done), but I would rather feel prepared than...lighter weight.
Tomorrow morning at 10:30 I catch my flight from San Diego to San
Francisco. The orientation starts around 2:00 P.M. and end later that
night with a dinner around 7:00. The next morning, we fly out on two
United flights - mine leaving first at 11:30 A.M. Wow.
I look forward to updating everyone as the trip progresses every day
or two as time permits. Reading all the expriences of past JFMFers, I
am not sure how much actual time I will have! Rest assured that I will
do my best to keep everyone interested abreast of this wonderful
journey!
