Hello,

I tried to prepare data (.csv and . jfmv) for visualizing in JFlowMap for working migrants in Slovenia but I'm having some difficulties opening my files. The program keeps sending me the following message: java.io.IOExeption: Error loading view configuration from 'C:\Projekti\2011\del_mesta\jflowmap-0.15.1\jflowmap-0.15.1\viewconf\opis.jfmv': Error loading 'C:Projekti\2011\del_mesta\jflowmap-0.15.1\\jflowmap-0.15.1\viewconf\../data/node.csv'(line2): No value for column 'Lon'.

If somebody could give me a suggestion what could be wrong with my files (or if the problem is elsewhere) i would be very grateful.

Thank you very much,

Hello Tatjana,

I am travelling right now and do not have a computer at hand to find out what the actual problem is. But this error message is normally displayed when jflowmap cannot parse the input file for some reason. Here it seems that in the second line of node.csv there is no suitable value corresponding to the column Lon. The reason for that could be that there are too few values in this line or there is something wrong with the separators between the values. Please, take a look again at nodes.csv, the problem must be there. I will also try to look at it later today.

Best regards
Ilya

OK, thank you for the advice, I will check it again.

It looks like the path name might be the issue, could you try removing the "../" from the three filenames? The paths are taken to be relative to the jar file, not the viewconf location, so just "data/node.csv" should do the trick.

Hello again, Tatjana,

I think, I found the problem. There were trailing spaces in each of the lines of node.csv which seemed to confuse the CSV parser used in jflowmap. I removed the trailing spaces in your file and now it seems to work fine, so I attached it to this message.

Regards
Ilya

If it was the case, the error message would have been different: "Cannot read from location".

The paths are taken to be relative to the jar file, not the viewconf location,

Actually, I changed this in one of the recent updates. The paths are now relative to the viewconf location, not the directory in which jflowmap was started, as it was before.

Thank you both, it works now perfectly. But in fact I had to do both, that is delete the trailing spaces and also remove  the "../".

It is really a great tool!
Thanks again.
Best regards,
Tatjana

My mistake, my checkout isn't up to date. I've submitted a small patch request which (hopefully) will strip trailing whitespace from elements to prevent this problem (Excel is particularly egregious  in making it easy to introduce whitespace errors).

cheers,
Shaun

Thanks Shaun!

I applied your patch, it will be included in the next minor update.

Best regards
Ilya
