The Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA) is beginning a series of
webinars. The first two will be given by Pamela Weisberger. The times
listed are Israel time.
Join us on May 30, 7 pm, for "Exploring the Archives: Unique and Unusual
Resources in Galician Research
In this digital genealogical age, we need to remember that not everything is
online. Learn about the exciting (and unusual) treasures available in
archives and libraries in Vienna, Ternopil, Lviv and Krakow. Learn about
documents dating from the late 1700s through the interwar years, such as the
Lviv family registration books, 1920s and 30s voter lists, Jewish taxpayer
records, and Lvov (Lemberg) and Jagellonian University student records to
magnate landowner records like a 1801 list of "Jewish Tavern Owners."
You'll
view examples from the Jewish Galician holdings in the Vienna State Archives
including kahal records and court cases--many with signatures of your
ancestors-and province-wide inventories listing rabbis and cantors from
every shtetl that had a Jewish congregation. Find an ancestor in the lists
of Jewish schoolteachers assigned to the German-Jewish schools in 1788 - the
point in Galician history when Jews were required to adopt family surnames.
An update on the All Galicia Database and Gesher Galicia's cadastral map
program will also be provided along with a step-by-step look at how to
conduct research at all of these archives.

On June 4, 8 pm, the Webinar is titled - "Chutes & Ladders: Innovative
Approaches to Genealogy".
In this interactive lecture you'll learn from Pamela Weisberger how to
navigate your genealogical game-board using imaginative strategies and
unusual databases. Climb ladders and scale brick walls by cleverly
manipulating Google, Facebook, Fundrace, PrivateEye, Geni, ProQuest and
Zabasearch. Locate M.I.A. relatives using real estate, court and bank
records. Clues abound if you know where to look. Get out your detective's
notepad and practice your powers of deduction to complete your ancestral
jigsaw puzzle. This talk will be more enlightening (and fun) than a barrel
of monkeys. Everybody wins!
