I just read the sad news that linguist and Yiddish-English translator Zelda Kahan Newman died. You can read an article about her
here. I knew her from our interactions at AJS, where she gave papers about Yiddish. I appreciated her research on Hasidic language, and I often cited her article about Yiddish intonation. May her memory be for blessing.
