JOSPEL CHORAL WORKSHOP

There is a musical form called "Jospel".   Jospel brings gospel rhythm, feeling, and some of the methods of interaction between singer and chorus, to Jewish songs and /or prayers or to new Jewish music.  The words are always simple and the song makes you want to move - the way 'This Little Light of Mine' does.  Ecstatic singing has been part of Judaism for hundreds of years, and this is simply an extension of it.  Sharon Alexander is the originator, composer and teacher of this music and musical term, and first introduced it at the Kallah 5 years ago. ("Kallah" is the Jewish Renewal international bi-annual gathering.) It was a smash hit and has been exuberantly received wherever she brings it. She has taught and led ad hoc Jospel choruses internationally for years now. People of all faiths can enjoy this music and all are welcome to the workshop.

Sharon Alexander, who is currently working on her dissertation about this music, is making a rare visit to the Boston area this summer and is teaching/leading a Jospel Choral Workshop on the evenings of Tue. July 14, Wed. July 15, and Thur. July 16, from 7 till 9 PM at the United Methodist Church at 430 Walnut St in Newtonville.  The fee for the workshop (that's all three nights) is $40.  If you can't come to all three nights you won't be lost.  It's OK.  If you need more info email Joan Caplan at joanc...@mac.com.
