Description: Position Overview: The Senior Project Manager oversees multiple exhibitions and public art projects from concept through completion. This role is responsible for expanding public art opportunities to further elevate and position Tomokazu Matsuyama’s work globally. The position leads and develops a team of three members, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient execution, operational excellence, and the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop team members, ensuring performance objectives are met and professional growth is supported Oversee end-to-end execution of exhibitions, public art installations, and commercial collaborations, including planning, design coordination, and deployment Develop and manage comprehensive project timelines, ensuring milestones and deadlines are consistently achieved Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external partners to drive project success Negotiate with stakeholders (with management approval) to secure optimal conditions for exhibitions, logistics, and risk mitigation Oversee budgets and ensure cost efficiency across all projects Translate client requirements into clear execution plans and align cross-functional teams accordingly Provide timely, accurate updates on project progress and key milestones to management Maintain clear, proactive communication with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery Build and sustain strong relationships with galleries, clients, vendors, and internal teams Evaluate new inquiries and opportunities; conduct research and prepare materials to support strategic decision-making Coordinate press-related activities, including drafting press releases and arranging media engagements as needed Lead risk management efforts, including identifying potential issues and implementing contingency plans Review and coordinate legal documentation in collaboration with relevant stakeholders Identify and develop new public art opportunities; lead initiatives from concept through execution Supervise team workflows, ensuring excellence in quality, efficiency, scheduling, and compliance Support administrative and operational tasks as needed Lead by example in professionalism and accountability, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture while upholding company policies
Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience managing teams of three or more members 5+ years of project management experience, preferably within art, exhibitions, or creative industries Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and faithfully realize the artist’s vision, values, and intentions, ensuring alignment across all projects Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability Sound judgment and strong problem-solving capabilities Ability to remain composed, professional, and empathetic under pressure High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information Proficiency in Japanese (verbal and written), with a strong understanding of Japanese culture, preferred Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to take on evolving responsibilities as needed
