Overview:
The Washington, D.C. Bureau of TV Asahi, a nation-wide Japanese TV network is currently seeking candidates for a full-time Producer.
Producer position:
The Producer will assist the Bureau in its news-gathering, reporting, and production activities for news broadcasts in Japan. Expected duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting correspondents and cameramen, both individually and alongside fellow producers
- Researching topics of interest, filming, and communicating/negotiating both inside and outside the company
- Researching, planning, and assisting with travel for feature stories
- Helping fellow producers with news-gathering, scheduling, and other tasks
- Assisting with field work and business trips
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree minimum (Major in Journalism, International Relations, or Asia Studies preferred)
- English language fluency required, with strong oral and written communication skills; Japanese language ability a plus
- Excellent research skills
- Strong interest and background in politics, international affairs, US/Japan/Northeast Asia issues, and an interest in journalism and/or broadcasting news
- Strong interest in and understanding of Asian culture
- Positive attitude toward working as part of a team
- Travel, both domestic and foreign, may be required
- Flexibility in working hours, due to time difference (between DC and Tokyo) and broadcasting deadlines
