Do you work for Congress? If so, there's a very unique opportunity to take an online class offered by the Japan Center for International Exchange, a Japanese think tank. See below.

Note #1: If you don't work for Congress, unfortunately you can't take this course. I know, it sounds really cool and I wish I could take it myself.

Note #2: The Executive Director of JCIE's New York office is JET alum Jim Gannon (Ehime-ken, 1992-94) who also serves on the JETAA USA Board of Advisors.

The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2021 installment of our "Japan 101" interactive online course, focusing on the theme of "US-Japan Relations During the Biden-Suga Era". This course, designed specifically for Congressional staff, will provide an opportunity to learn about key issues in the crucial US-Japan relationship, as both countries adapt to new leadership.

The 8-session course will provide Congressional staff who cover Asia policy issues the opportunity to speak with some of the world’s top experts from Japan and the United States on security, trade, and other shared challenges. Those who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate and will be given priority for our exchanges once travel to Japan becomes possible again.

The course is open to Congressional staff employed in the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Congressional Research Service. The number of participants in the course is strictly limited and it will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The application period will be kept open until all the slots are filled, or until February 21, 2021, whichever comes first, and participants will be notified soon thereafter.
