Open position: Executive Director

International Student Conferences, Inc. (ISC) is seeking an entrepreneurial Executive Director to assume the leadership of this highly respected organization. ISC facilitates two exceptional academic and cultural exchange programs organized by university students: the Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) and the Korea-America Student Conference (KASC).

Founded in 1934, JASC is the oldest student-run exchange program between the United States and Japan. Patterned after the JASC model of a bilateral student-run conference, the KASC program launched in 2008. Our mission is to promote peace by furthering mutual understanding, friendship, and trust through international student interchange.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, ISC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a 20-member board of directors. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and operations of ISC and its programs.

ISC is an organization with a long history of success and a network of enthusiastic supporters. The operation is well-organized with hundreds of notable alumni, a skilled staff team, and a budget of more than $500,000. More information on ISC and its programs may be found at www.iscdc.org.

Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to promote peace by furthering mutual understanding, friendship and trust with particular focus on Japan-U.S. and Korea-U.S. relations. S/he will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to ISC, including:

In-depth understanding of and appreciation for Japanese and Korean cultures;
Demonstrated effective leadership, planning, and non-profit management skills;
Proven experience interacting with senior government, business, and academic leaders;
Proven success fundraising among corporations, foundations, and individuals;
Minimum 5 years of experience as senior staff person or chief executive officer of a non-profit organization preferred;
Public relations experience preferred;
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred;
Valid passport and availability to travel to Northeast Asia as well as throughout the U.S. as necessary.
