it is not being paid for, so it happens when it happens. this question of yours is rude to the people donating their time and energy to the project.

I also have a Jet and would love to have android on it. But how long
will it take untill jetdroid is ready to use?

Dear Loki. Couple of comments from a "lurker" on this list - that is, one of the many who are not hackers and can't help with the porting work directly, but are interested in using Android on the Jet and could perhaps help with testing:

First, Sinterkl445 merely asked a straightforward, reasonably polite question, to which you replied:

> ..this question of yours is rude to the people donating their time and energy to the project...

Responding to basic inquiries about progress with the port as you did is nothing less than rude on *your* part. This aggressive attitude to won't win you any friends in the community.

Second, after monitoring this list for some time, I (and surely a number of others) have concluded that this port is not likely to ever reach a useful stage. Nothing personal, I just don't have confidence that you'll ever be able to port this thing. And, as phone technology moves forward and prices go down, the project is rapidly becoming irrelevant.

So, considering the negative attitude in the group and the lack of progress, i doesn't seem worth the effort to follow this project any longer. I think I'll just sell my Jet and buy an actual Android phone.

So long, and good luck with your hacking.

if you want the project to move faster, put up some money to pay for whatever resources will help it move faster, like was suggested recently, buying samsung chips/dev boards to gain access to documentation resources, or whatever. asking dumb, repetitive questions is not helping in any way and like i said, is inconsiderate to those who are putting in the time and effort to realise the project.

jetdroid is not a commercial product, you have paid nothing towards it, and so, like i said, it will get finished when it gets finished. if you actually cared about open source you wouldn't make such a negative comment about the efforts being made so far. the open source movement won't neccessarily win every battle on every front at every stage but it's a worthy fight. if you want an instant product, go buy an android phone or an iphone and quit complaining. the phone isn't that bad as it is, it's just shut tight and the software seems very poorly thought out and lacks unity of concept and interface.

incidentally, perhaps it would be a good idea to make a 'what you can do to help, what do we need' page into the project page. i think since someone has directly attacked me for reminding people this is an open source, totally voluntary project, that i should do it. in the next few days i will go back through the jetdroid mailing list's posts and gather the info about what has already been said about what would help, and post a summary of what would be most immediately helpful.

sure... i'll look at it tomorrow morning (local time here is 21:09) and post a summary of quotes of relevant information. it would be useful also to know what sort of money is involved for each task because, while i'm not exactly flush, i could spend, easily, $50 to help this project, consider that a pledge. i love this phone i just hate its' provided proprietary software. if access to documentation is the only thing really holding back the project i'm sure between us all we could pull together enough to at least achieve the goal of having the phone able to make and receive calls and access the internet even if only via wifi OR gprs/3g while running android. i hate dual booting myself, and on my pc i only use windows when software i've paid for can't be made to behave under wine. i wish i knew how to write driver code and that my programming skills weren't so piddling. i'm quite comfortable with operating a terminal and basic stuff like compilation and small modifications, and just so it's known, i contributed a small fix to the enigmail code some years back, enabling it to interoperate with hushmail. it wasn't big but for the most part these small things add up to a lot.

Relax dude, the guy is just making a point over here. To reply to
somebody like that is retarted. And yes this project is indeed
unlikely to ever finish. Simply because there are way too many issues
involved. And even if it ever succeeded, it will never function fully
like a real android phone. It's kinda more like a hobby, that's just
the way it is. I'm just telling this so people won't have a too high
expectation. If you want to have a real android phone, just go to the
store and buy yourself a htc. They're quite decent actually. And i
also don't think you would be able to make certain prices to have
things fixed simply because your programming skills are not sufficient
enough.
I'm a programmer btw, in the sense that i know how to code in several
languages.
Take care

well, the initial post annoyed me also,

if people would spend just a few seconds reading the other posts, finding out a little more about the project, then they would find the answer to their question.
Its just pure laziness to ask such a question. Its not like its the first, second, third or fourth time its been asked, either here or on DF

"want it, want it now, want it free,  not interested in reading, not interested in the technicalities". mentality.

Anyone who fits into this mindset should go and buy an Android phone and stop tormenting themselves. Lifes too short!

Others who don't fit into this and see it as a personal challenge should continue to develop and learn.
