Hello Fellow Jet Sailors,
I'm new to the Annapolis Fleet at SSA and run the junior sailing program at Tred Avon Yacht Club (Oxford, MD). I've sailed lots of one-designs growing up, but consider Optimists and Penguins as my junior sailing roots. As a middle school teacher in Baltimore, I work with kids year round. My many years of experience teaching in the classroom and on the water, continues to reinforce the importance of one basic principle to learning; make it fun! Earlier this winter, my junior crew of three years was getting bored frostbiting our Interclub, so I knew it was time to find a new adventure and challenge. Jet-14s are definitely exciting and he's hooked.
Looking ahead, my plan is to begin a junior fleet of Jets at TAYC this summer to bring this excitement to the sailors there and hopefully reinvigorate junior participation in Jet-14s. I'm currently searching for at least three boats that don't require restoration or significant investment to actively race. The Jet Nationals are hosted at TAYC this year (Aug. 4-7) and I'm encouraged to think many talented TAYC Juniors will be racing in this regatta.
Please let me know if you'd like to sell your race ready (tanked) Jet to support this initiative. See you on the course!
