Our Nations Pain

I am not sure how one truly separates the saint from the sinner, or the righteous from the evil. In every man and every woman exists both light and darkness. It is when the struggle between these two forces cause incredible pain and suffering does it shake us and wake us to realize by the grace of God there go I. We shake our heads, clench our hands, bite our lips, pound our chests, and try not to die just a little bit more than yesterday. In this dessert journey we call life, we want to find an oasis and dip our parched souls into the cool water of sanity and goodness. Yet often the distance between one oasis and another seems insurmountable. For some to simply find one single oasis is nothing less than miraculous. But what of those who just give up looking for the sweet water of life?

Our streets, homes, schools, colleges, malls, churches, mosques, and synagogues are filled with so many people who feel hopeless, and helpless. They feel that no matter what they do, where they go, who they talk to, who they see, how much they want, they just do not measure up, and it does not make a difference. A wise fathers words, and the love of a mothers arms are not enough to quell the fear of tomorrow, the loss of yesterday, and the uncertainty of the future. So just where did everything go terribly wrong? At what moment in time now past was it that the struggle was lost to the dark side? Are any of us immune to such a transition? Is there a magical potion out there to ward off such evil? What could have I done to stave off such calamity and destruction?

Perhaps I could have focused less on me and more on they. A laughable solution for some, a pious one for others. Yet it is something that I can give to another that has no monetary cost except for my time and effort. Perhaps instead of praying one time a week, I need to pray one time a day. Instead of praying one time a day, I need to pray several times a day. I need to recognize that I alone cannot change the world. I need to recognize that no earthly government and its self centered politicians can change the world. Instead I need to believe that God is the only one who can truly make a difference. You say there is no God? Perhaps that is the moment in time past where we need to begin!
