A bomb is detonated in the United States Capitol, sending Washington, D.C. into lockdown. Finnerty escorts Raphelson to an underground command center in the Pentagon, while Vice President Alvin Hammond is taken aboard Air Force One. A paramilitary team led by ex-Delta Force operative Emil Stenz infiltrates the White House, kills the Secret Service, and seizes the building. The tour group is taken hostage in the Blue Room by white nationalist Carl Killick, but Cale escapes to search for Emily, who was separated during the tour. Retiring Head of Presidential Detail Martin Walker brings Sawyer to the PEOC beneath the White House Library. Inside, Walker kills Sawyer's detail, revealing himself as the leader of the attack, apparently seeking vengeance against Sawyer for a botched mission in Iran that killed his Marine son the year prior. Cale kills a mercenary, taking his weapon and radio, and rescues Sawyer after overhearing Walker.
Walker brings in ex-NSA analyst Skip Tyler to hack the PEOC's defense system but requires Sawyer to activate the nuclear football. Killick catches Emily filming the intruders on her phone and takes her hostage. Cale and Sawyer contact the command structure via a scrambled satellite phone in the residence and try to escape via a secret tunnel but find the exit rigged with explosives. They escape in the presidential limo but are chased by Stenz and crash into the White House pool. With Sawyer and Cale presumed dead in an explosion in the cabana, the 25th Amendment is invoked; Hammond is sworn in as president. Cale and Sawyer, still alive, learn Hammond has ordered an aerial incursion to retake the White House, but the mercenaries shoot down the helicopters with FGM-148 Javelins. Learning Emily's identity from the video, Stenz takes her to Walker in the Oval Office. Hacking into NORAD, Tyler launches a laser-guided missile at Air Force One from Piketon, Ohio, killing Hammond and everyone on board. Raphelson is thus sworn in as president and orders an airstrike on the White House.

Lowering Costs for Renters
President Biden is also taking actions to lower costs and promote housing stability for renters. The White House Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights lays out the key principles of a fair rental market and has already catalyzed new federal actions to make those principles a reality. Today, President Biden is announcing new steps to crack down on unfair practices that are driving up rental costs:
Gyllenhaal initially strikes the right tone as Agent Finnerty, coolly turning down Cale, but watching empathetically as he exits. Note to the New Woman: it's one way to handle professional duties with aplomb while letting your nurturing side show a bit. Yet after the take-over, and in a secret bunker/War Room, she issues orders like a zonked out zombie. James Woods gives a bravura performance as her boss, the head of Secret Service with his own frightening secrets that drive the film; but even here there is a light touch, as we watch him reaching for his Lorazepam.
What have you done on this show?
We did 9 complex full CG shots, 3 shots in the sequence where the presidential limousine is chased on the white house grounds, and 6 shots with the Air Force One lifting off Andrews Air Force Base and later getting shot down by a Surface to Air Missile.
The Trees were created, according to set references, with a controllable hierarchy. After we ingested that hierarchy into Thinking Particles, we were then able to control what parts of the tree should just bend and what should get ripped off from the main trunk down to the leaves. This was then done with several simulation passes for different parts of the tree hierarchy, that were dependent on each other.
To fill the shot up, debris from the RPG explosion was simulated that would interact with the trees, the limo, the pool furniture and the pool water. The Pool furniture gets also kicked away by the limo ,this was first roughly simulated and, based on that, key frame animated.
The assault begins when Conrad Cern infiltrated the U.S. Capitol disguised as a janitor and sets off a bomb at the center of the building. House Speaker Eli Raphelson, who was in the Capitol, remains unharmed and is taken to an underground command center with Finnerty, while Vice President Alvin Hammond is taken aboard Air Force One. The White House is put on lockdown, separating Cale from Emily, who had left the tour group to use the restroom.
At the command center, Finnerty uses Emily's video to discover the mercenaries' identities some of them are ex-soldiers and white supremacists. They also discover that Walker has an inoperable tumor, suggesting his involvement to be a suicide mission and that the attack is meant for more dangerous reasons. Cale and Sawyer find the tunnel gate rigged with an explosive and are forced to escape with a presidential limo. After giving chase with Stenz on the White House lawn, Cale and Sawyer get flipped into the White House pool after Cale gets distracted by Carl Killick holding Emily at gunpoint. A gunfight erupts which results in an explosion that leaves Sawyer and Cale presumed dead. Hammond is then sworn in as acting President.
When Cale and Sawyer reveal they are still alive, they learn Hammond has ordered an aerial incursion to take back the White House. Knowing the mercenaries have Javelins, Cale tries but fails to stop them from shooting down the choppers. Cale gets into a fight with Stenz and ends up dropping his White House passes for himself and Emily while escaping. Having already learned of Emily from the video, Stenz, now knowing she is Cale's daughter, takes her to Walker in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, Tyler finally finishes the upload into NORAD and launches a missile at Air Force One, killing Hammond and everyone on board. Raphelson is then sworn in as acting President and reluctantly orders an air strike on the White House since if the nuclear missiles are launched at Iran, Russia and China will launch their own nuclear missiles at the US as they will think the US will attack them next, triggering the Third World War.
The new movie "White House Down" is pretty much what it sounds like - a movie about terrorists trying to take down the White House. We should all be grateful that Channing Tatum just happens to be around to stop them, so says critic Kenneth Turan.
Shortly after moving into the White House, President Truman noticed the telltale signs of a building under serious physical stress. He frequently complained of drafts and unusual popping and creaking noises and joked of ghosts that inhabited the old house. "The floors pop and the drapes move back and forth. This sequence incorporated two fully computer-generated shots. The CG environment was augmented with matte paintings, adding lots of photographic details including broken windows, roof destruction, dirt and soot from the fires and smoke damage. The west wing and pool house also received matte painting treatment to create similar destruction. The White House grounds were painted to add tire track detail from the vehicles and debris from the explosions and crashed helicopters.
At the time of our trip to Canada, Tatum's wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, was not yet pregnant with the couple's first child. Still, "White House Down" marks the first time audiences will see the "Magic Mike" heartthrob in a daddy role, and getting to play a wannabe Secret Serviceman whose daughter gets trapped in the action of bad guys trying to take down the White House was one of the main things that drew him to the gig.
Clarke said a lot of effort goes into preserving that illusion -- but it's still an illusion. "The White House may look like a National Park Service tourist destination with a couple more policemen at it. It's a lot more than that," he said. "When I wanted to close Pennsylvania Ave. back in 1996, '97 [following the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City], that was the argument against me: 'We don't want this place to look like a fortress, we want it to look like the people's house.' And I said, 'I want it to continue standing, so we're closing the street.'"
