This page covers how to use the Wirebug in Monster Hunter Rise. The Wirebug is a mechanic new to the Monster Hunter series, and enables hunters to perform special Silkbind attacks, quickly traverse terrain, recover from blows, and trigger Wyvern Riding. Find tips and a complete Wirebug controls guide below.

ZL is the basic "Wirebug Button" - the button you'll press to activate the Wirebug in most cases. If you're using a Light Bow Gun, Heavy Bow Gun, or Bow, however, you'll need to press R while your weapon is active instead.

Pay attention to the two Wirebug symbols on the bottom of your screen - aka the Wirebug Gauge. Most Wirebug moves will consume one of these. Some Silkbind Attacks will consume two. They recover with time, and you can expand to a third gauge by picking up a wild Endemic Life Wirebug.

While in past Monster Hunter games there was "mounting" damage, in Monster Hunter Rise, there is Wirebug damage. This is noted by damage numbers that are highlighted in light blue Both Silkbind attacks and attacks performed after using a Wiredash deal Wirebug damage. This is important, because once enough Wirebug damage builds against a monster, it will enter a mountable state and let you engage in powerful Wyvern Riding!

You can basically use them to traverse environments much faster and reach new heights like never before, while they also expand your options in aerial combat that was previously limited to either jumping off a higher platform or a couple weapon types.

The ability to wiredash in the air means just about every weapon can have an aerial attack that was previously the domain of just a couple weapons or environmental factors, such as leaping off a platform.

Wirebugs also allow you to perform special attacks called Silkbind Attacks. These are normally triggered when your weapon is unsheathed and by pressing ZL + X or ZL + A. If you're using a ranged weapon type, Silkbind Attacks are triggered by pressing R + X or R + A.

Depending on the skill, Silkbind Attacks cost either one or two wirebugs and their cooldowns are usually a little slower than when performing a wiredash. Silkbind Attacks are unique to each weapon type - which we explain more about in our Monster Hunter Rise weapons list page.

ZL + X will let you wiredash forward so you can cover a greater distance in the air. Meanwhile, ZL + A will wiredash you downwards. Free-aiming is also possible while airborne, though you naturally have less time to do this.

Better yet, if you press A when airborne, you'll do a midair stop, hanging onto the wirebug's silk for a few seconds, giving you plenty of time to figure out your next move. Note that your wirebug cooldown is paused during this.

During a midair stop, you can still perform one of the above wiredashes. Alternatively, you can press B to just drop down or press B while pointing the left stick to do an air-roll in that direction. The latter's great for when you need to course-correct or reach a monster that was just out of reach. It also means you can better position yourself for an aerial attack.

However, you don't necessarily have to start back at the bottom because if you have enough wirebug, you wiredash back onto that wall and continue the climb as you'll have recovered enough stamina during that brief pause (you can also do a midair stop to wait for your stamina gauge to fully recover). This essentially means it's possible to scale any wall no matter how high.

Press ZL + B and your hunter will use a wirebug to pull themselves out of immediate danger. Use the left stick to recover in whichever direction you want, which actually means if you get knocked backwards, you can also just be risky and throw yourself immediately back into the fight.

Activating a wirefall also costs one wirebug so it's always handy to have at least one in stock in the middle of a hunt. You'll be grateful to move out of the way from a Rathian's poison attack or when you're juggled in the air for a killer follow-up.

Learn how to start Sunbreak - the first expansion - and from there, how to unlock Master Rank, use Switch Skill swap, and progress onward with our Monster Hunter Sunbreak walkthrough. There's also a monsters list, as well as individual pages on beating Garangolm, Lunagaron and Shogun Ceanataur. For the base game, we have a number of Monster Hunter Rise tips and lists of ore locations, bone locations, weapon types, how to use Insect Glaives and Kinsects, details of how to join friends in multiplayer, how to capture monsters and learn about wirebugs and great wirebugs.

As with other buff-providing endemic life that roam each area, you'll also come across wirebugs in the wild. Just press A when you're close to one and you'll add it to your wirebug gauge on the bottom of the screen.

You can only add a third wirebug, though, so don't get greedy with interacting with other wirebugs. The third wirebug however only lasts for a limited time, so it's worth having another nearby so you can top it up later.

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest game in a long-running series. The appeal of Monster Hunter is that players can team up to challenge powerful and amazing creatures, and then use materials obtained from quests to craft new gear for the next big hunt. Monster Hunter Rise features 14 returning weapon types which have been revamped to conform to new gameplay elements introduced in the newest game. But the weapon that has changed the most from past games is the Hunting Horn.

In the Monster Hunter Rise demo that was released ahead of the game's March 26 launch, players got the chance to see for themselves just how much the Hunting Horn and other weapons had changed. The Hunting Horn has always been considered a support weapon throughout the history of the series. This still holds true, but in Monster Hunter Rise it is easier than ever to perform stat-boosting songs while still dishing out lots of damage to monsters. This guide will set hunters on the right path towards making the most of this unique weapon type.

When performing basic attacks with X, A, or X+A, music notes will be generated on the Music Staff under the player's health gauge. Unlike in previous Monster Hunter titles, the support songs of the Hunting Horn will automatically play upon lining up the correct notes. No extra action is needed in order to buff or heal the party. For example, the Hunting Horn set in the demo causes a Defense Up effect after two X commands or an Attack Up effect after two A commands. The possible Melody Effects can be seen on-screen and in the Hunter's Notes menu.

The Magnificent Trio is a special attack that can be performed if each of the three types of notes is present on the player's Music Staff. It could be used immediately after a combo of A > X > X+A for example. Magnificent Trio will instantly trigger all available Melody Effects. It also happens to be a powerful attack with a long animation, making it great for punishing a monster that has been stunned, trapped, or downed in any way.

That last combo assumes that Magnificent Trio is already prepped and it utilizes the Perform action to trigger Infernal Melody as well as Silkbind attacks, both of which will be discussed in the next section.

In addition to the Music Staff, players wielding a Hunting Horn will have another element added to their HUD - the Infernal Melody gauge. This gauge fills as the hunter lands attacks on a monster. Once full, using the Perform action with ZR after a Magnificent Trio or a Slide Beat Silkbind attack will trigger the Song of Raging Flame. This is a temporary but effective attack boost.

Silkbind attacks are a fun new addition to Monster Hunter Rise. Hunters are equipped with a Wirebug, which is represented on-screen by a number of Wirebug symbols at the bottom of the screen. Silkbind attacks can be executed by pressing either ZL+X or ZL+A and consuming either one or two Wirebugs, depending on the attack. These Wirebugs will then become available again after a short period of time.

In the full version of Monster Hunter Rise, players will have access to several Silkbind attacks for each weapon. They will be able to mix and match however they choose to create a loadout that best suits their individual tastes and strategy. At the time of writing, only the following Silkbind attacks are known for the Hunting Horn via the playable demo:

There are many other weapon types to master in Monster Hunter Rise and many other monsters that will be available to hunt in the full release of the game. The playable demo offers hunters a great chance to practice new skills in preparation for the Rampage, but some things can only be learned on a real quest.
