Jenny Update and Friday Night Meeting

After our meeting last night Maribeth Fitts and myself (Mary T.) went to see Jenny and help with her bedtime toilet. Jenny is ecstatic to be home and delighted to see people. She said that yesterday was a huge, happy day in her life to be back in her home. She is set up in a hospital bed in her living room. She has a commode and because walking is difficult she needs help to get out of bed to use it and then to get back into bed.  Dave is managing her meds., and she has a morphine pump which she is able to set herself. Her legs are swollen and she appreciated having her legs and feet rubbed with lotion. She needs help reaching her drinks, etc. so I will bring a rolling laptop computer table over if they need one. She has daily nursing care and Dave will continue to access Community Care and Hospice.

About Visiting Jenny

She wants to see everyone but please call ahead before visiting.

There may be a notice on the door saying whether or not Jenny is receiving visitors. Her sleeping patterns are a bit mixed up, so don't be offended if you arrive and then find that she has become unavailable. Since her bed is in the living room a quiet knock at the door is preferred to the doorbell. Don't let the cat out!

To keep spirits high, and to not alarm the girls or cause Jenny discomfort, we are asking people to contain strong feelings of grief when they visit with her. She is feeling very positive right now.

People to Sit with Jenny

People interested and available to visit and sit with Jenny while the family is busy or out please leave your name here. We will set up some schedules soon.

The "Hotlist"

We also have set up a "hotlist" of telephone numbers of people who are in the area and available quickly in case the family needs to have someone there with Jenny at short notice. If you want your name on the "hotlist" call or email Dave Anderson directly. Dave may also send out a request for this at the time on this google mail.

Food

The amazing Annette is the "go-to" food coordinator. She will have a cooler or something similar set up outside where people can leave food and pick up empty dishes.

Drivers

The girls have activities they need transportation to and from. For the most part this was looked after last night, but if you think you could be a driver for Tuesday or Thursday evenings, please call or email Dave Anderson.

Jenny's mom will need a lift from her apartment to Jenny's house. Anyone local and relatively free who would like to drive Betty please leave your name here. Times will vary.

Jenny's Spiritual Care

The former minister of Jenny's church has been in touch with the family and visited Jenny. We expect this relationship to continue.
Jenny has found Atherton Drenth's work to be helpful www.athertondrenth.ca/. Although Jenny does not want people buying or paying for things, those who would like to financially support Atheron's treatments can leave their names here.
Ann Friendship (who attended last night) works for Hospice in Guelph and is a tremendous resource for Hospice volunteers who do therapeutic touch and home visits. Hospice volunteers are available to come and sit overnight.

We also discussed spiritual care for the girls. The Coping Centre in Cambridge www.copingcentre.com/ provides grief groups for kids and teens after the death of a loved one. In the meantime, those who are close to the girls and Dave can keep us informed of their needs.

Future Birthdays

Dave's birthday is November 6, and Mads is on November 19. We may ask for help with birthday celebrations.

A big thanks to Cindy and Ted for hosting last night's meeting. We were Dave Anderson, Tannis, Annette, Dave Hale, Ann Friendship, Ann Peck, Maribeth and Mary. If I've left out anything important pls add it to Jenny-care. Annette continues to manage food and has sent out a note that anyone bringing food for today's birthday party can take it directly to Jenny's house and say hello to her until 5 pm. today.

Hello everyone.....I  just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful meal last night.  The food was delicious and it was so wonderful for Jen to be surrounded by her family.  She knows
that her friends and family will do anything to help her.  She told me that she feels so loved...what a beautiful thing..
It was a wonderful meal and evening...thanks to everyone.

Hi Mary,

Please add me to those able to sit with Jenny or provide help with schedules and jobs--as I said at the meeting, we're all willing to do anything Jenny and her family need of us--so please add us to the list where you think it can help!

Many thanks!
Take care

Ann Friendship
