Hey friends,
I know we are always asking for thoughts/prayers, but I feel the need to ask for another. I don't know how many of you have ever heard of Andrew McDonough's story or the B+ Foundation but in case you haven't, Andrew played for the same soccer club as I did when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was just 14 when he passed away (in 2007) after a long, hard battle. It just so happened that the message he emitted throughout his fight, to Be Positive, was the very same as his blood type. Similarly to the Four Diamonds Fund, the B+ Foundation was born from the immeasurable loss of a child and also acts as the beneficiary of Dance Marathons, including "UDance" at University of Delaware.
Bottom line: his family is incredible. I met them at THON 2010 (they were absolutely blown away by what we do) and invited them to speak at my school's Mini-THON that year. While they are not a THON Family, cancer has cast its shadow on the McDonough's just the same and devastatingly has just hit them a second time- this time in Andrew's Mom. They are now preparing to fight this horrible disease all over again and are asking for all of the prayers & support they can get.. So who better to turn to but my THON friends for help?
I've included the link to their CaringBridge so you can read their most recent, deeply moving update. They mention how they hope they don't have to go through this alone now that they are going through it once more which is what inspired this email, hoping we can help to make sure they know they are NOT alone.
Today I'm reminded once again that we THON for EVERY family affected by cancer, giving us that many more reasons to never give up in finding a cure. I know we have so many families to think of already, but if you remember their family too, that would be awesome <3. I know it would mean so much to them for THON to send some prayers and positive thoughts their way. Thanks so much guys!
Love you all <3
FTK,
Chels

FACT: One in 330 children will develop cancer before the age of 20. 14,000 children will be diagnosed this year with cancer. That is the size of 2 average classrooms every single day, year after year.
