CLI regression or new error?

I just upgraded from 1.572 to 1.596 and a shell job that I have that uses the CLI and update-job to load about 23 jobs that has always worked flawlessly in the past now runs for about 8 jobs then fails with the following error for a couple of commands then succeeds for a few then fails for a few more and so on: (I'm assuming this is a queuing issue?)

This was the tweet I sent last night - no response so not sure if @jenkinsci is considered a valid way to pass things on.

@jenkinsci so, just to confirm: the regression in hudson.remoting.SynchronousCommandTransport$ReaderThread occurs in 1.576. 1.575 is good.
