Where did the "Append Jenkins Build Number" in the m2-release plugin go?

I understand that "Append Jenkins Build Number" has been removed in the mvn-release plugin since it had no effect

But it is possible to get this feature to work automatically work somehow anyway?

You could try setting the release version to “1.2.3-${BUILD_NUMBER}” – but I’m not expecting that it works – you may get lucky.
