in /jenkins/pluginManager i see that 3 bundled plugins are updated -
subversion, cvs, translation plugin.

when i click on update new plugins are downloaded but when i check
them by looking inside - they are exactly same versions as my old, not
announced versions.

Subversion Plugin - installed 1.34
CVS Plugin - installed 1.6
Translation Assistance Plugin - installed 1.8

Did you restart Jenkins?

Hi,

I have the exact same problem. I choose the said three plugins and
click on Download now and install after restart. I've restarted
Jenkins manually, nothing seems to work.

I can still install new plugins. The Log is quite empty.

Are more people have this issue?

Hasn't this been an issue for a while?  I can't update CVS or Subversion via normal update process since I started using Jenkins 1.450 (my first experience w/ Jenkins).  I think it is something to do with these being part of the Jenkins distro and having to manually "pin" it or something, but I was never successful at getting around the concern.  All I know is that the OCD in me wants everything up to date all the time! :-)

Hi,

yes it seems it has been an issue for a while but why are not more people asking about and investigating this? Perhaps you and I are one of the few with this particular OCD... :-)

I might check the bug database (and post if necessary) later today so Kohsuke himself is aware.

I think the issue is described here
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-13129. At least I managed to
update a bundled plugin by first creating the .pinned file manually. So it
should be fixed in 1.458 but I haven't tried it out.

Good morning!

Doesn't seem to be fixed. I tried updating the CVS Plugin from 1.6 to 2.2 and the Translation Assistance Plugin from 1.8 to 1.9. Both registered as upgraded but it wasn't reflected on restart.

Cheers!

Anthony

I can also replicate this on a pair of Jenkins instances running on Ubuntu 10.04.

Hi,

Same issue here with the latest Jenkins version (1.458) running on a debian squeeze.

Has anyone already reported this issue in a Jira ticket?

Reynald

Here is the link previously noted that is related to this issue.  https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-13129

I went ahead and in the $JENKINS_HOME/plugins folder created empty files to pin the 3 bundled plugins with updates called:

- subversion.jpi.pinned
- cvs.jpi.pinned
- translation.jpi.pinned

Then I went through the normal "Install after reboot" plugin update process for the above 3 and 'oila'...I am running 1.39 of subversion.

Wish it was suppoted via the UI to do this....unless it is and I missed it somehow.

Hi, Jeff,

thx for the hint. Plugin update now "empty" instead of having 3 plugins still to update.

Dirk

Documented, but not obvious.  The update/pinning of integrated plugins is fairly non-intuitive from a user perspective.  The fact that it doesn't work appears to be a bug and I'd wager countless people spend hours if not longer trying to figure out why.

Could the user experience be enhanced to either make it more obvious and/or allow the pinning of plugins via the UI instead of the current manual way?

I checked with 1.459 and the issue is fixed there. That is, a plugin gets pinned automatically during an upgrade. Pinning (or unpinning actually) was and is still supported through UI.

Yes, plugin updates works from GUI without any manual "pinnings" in version 1.459. Great!
