Wanting to abort, but Jenkins would NOT let it be easy. I clikc abort several times (confirmation dialog box each time, clicked OK).

I had to go into the Console output and click on the links popping up, but nothing happens, nothing.

Hard kill!
Finished: ABORTED

When I want to abort, I want to abort. Then to hell with the consequences.
sudo kill -9 jenkins

Why have Jenkins made it SO difficult to abort a singe build?

Your usual way of generally asking for help is definitely an example.

I hear you brother...been using Jenkins for over 3 years and never had this problem...wonder why I pitched at my workplace so hard for the pipeline and sometimes I want to tell my manager and co workers to go back to the old way of multiple jobs instead of the coded pipeline way of things.

But try updating the durable task plugin.  It might help.  My pipeline also hangs sometimes but I've seen that I'm able to kill it by going to the console output.
