Hi,

Are you aware of any reason why Jenkins (1.399) will by itself switch to "going to shutdown" mode (no new job started and a red banner)?

I am the only admin of the instance so it is excluded that another person click on the "prepare to shutdown" link.

Thanks

Julien

Hi,

is there anybody updating the system where Jenkins is running via yum
or equivalent system update tool?

When a new packet for Jenkins gets installed that triggers shutdown
and then restart,

That's maybe not the cause but at least to give some new tracks to
follow...

regards
didier

Hi,

Thanks for the tip but I am also the only root. There is a backup tool than run periodically on the system so I will check that...

Julien

Hi,

You have hit the nail on the head: it is the backup that triggers the system to shut down, backs up, then removes the trigger.

We experienced this "weird behavior" in our setup, and the root cause turned out to be the backup plugin. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

It must be so that the system is a in a stopped state - no further
jobs will start in that state, although ones still running will be
allowed to finish.

I understand. Maybe it would be better to have a more appropriate message than "going to shutdown" (could be "backup in progress").

At least now I have an explanation, so many thanks to all of you.

Regards,

Julien
