REST API documentation - details on slave creation

Where are some details on the REST api (besides the ../api path in Jenkins)?  I know some things are possible based on the Python API documented features but seems there must be a way to get REST API details without reverse engineering the Python API.

Thanks Eric.  I was off track searching for a REST solution and the link you mentioned should work good for my scenario.
