1) Jenkins runs fine on 64-bit Java on all the platforms I've tested
it on (Windows and Ubuntu 16.04). Of course, your operating system has
to be 64-bit in order for 64-bit programs like Java to work in most
cases. I assume it's distributed with 32-bit Java for the Windows
installer in order to reach the greatest possible number of users by
serving the lowest common denominator (there are still many people who
run a 32-bit OS).
2) It doesn't help to speculate about whether switching to 64-bit Java
will solve any of the problems you're having with Jenkins. It's so
easy to test that you should just _test it_ and see if it fixes your
problem. Your description of your problem suggests to me that it's not
too likely to be something fixed by changing out your Java from 32-bit
to 64-bit, but again, the most reliable way to find out is to actually
try it.
