My use case would be to separate x86 and x64 test results.

Doing them in same stage (due to missing dynamic stages in declarative) via dotCover.

Currently I get 2 results for each and cannot tell if it is x64 or x86

How you distinguish the test cases x86 from x64? Based on report path ?

Only by reading log at the moment I assumed I will find solution when I will reach it, but found   JENKINS-45826 instead and that leaded me here

Has there been any movement on this issue? We have use-cases for this as well, regarding the possibility of categorizing component and unit tests for example.

No, this has to be condered suspended since a rewrite of the report render is needed. This also could mean do not use anymore the junit plugin features.
