Re: In IE11, name of running job extends into main dashboard area

Hi Tom, do you have any comments on this please? Is there a setting I can adjust in IE11 to fix it?

best regards

David

What URL is showing the problem, and what is the exact name of the affected job? I cannot reproduce this on a mostly pristine Jenkins with the job name

job with long name that does nothing of significance

It correctly breaks into lines on the test VM of IE11 with Windows 8 from modern.ie.

Is your IE setup corporate controlled (with possible non-default presentation settings)? Does the same issue occur if you spin up a new Jenkins and create a job with a long name?

When I use the name

job_with_long_name_that_does_nothing_of_significance____

it does not break at all, but also not split like your example appears to be.

Hi Daniel, thanks for looking into this.

I still see the problem and will attached a screenshot showing a job with the same name as yours.

Not easy for me to spin up a fresh instance of Jenkins.

Crucially, our IE setup is corporate controlled - though I can ask for settings to be changed. Difficulty is knowing which setting is responsible.

Right, it seems alignment/position is influenced by whatever else is shown. So I guess the weird position in your original screenshot would be explained by whatever other jobs are running at the same time with even worse names?

Not easy for me to spin up a fresh instance of Jenkins.

All it involves is downloading a 60 MB war file and running java -jar jenkins.war from the command line. (In case you weren't thinking about the IT policy preventing that.)

Would be interesting to know whether a pristine IE has the same issue on your instance. The Microsoft-provided http://modern.ie test VMs may help with that.

Hi David.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Sadly, IE always continues to be a source of problems.

Jenkins inserts zero-width-space characters (u8203) in long strings of text. This is not working for David's IE11 setup under some particular scenario. You could look at the source (select the test and do "view element source" in the browser) and see if these characters are getting inserted, or not.

Daniel (Daniel Beck), sounds like you have found a situation where your modern.ie breaks? Maybe we can do a screenshare?
