Thanks for your interest in contributing to Jenkins.  We find it is best if new contributors explore Jenkins and find areas that are interesting to them.  We have many, many areas where you can contribute.  Choose one that looks interesting to you.  Suggestions are available at https://www.jenkins.io/participate/ 

If you'd like to contribute through source code, you could join Hacktoberfest that is running during the month of October.  It is described at https://www.jenkins.io/events/hacktoberfest/
